Blogsploration

Hey, out there in the blogosphere! What are your favorite music blogs? What do you look for in a site devoted to music? Is it good written content, visual design, free downloads or links to purchase new music? What sites do you visit all the time? Where do you get your heads-up for what bands to follow? Do you like hobby blogs like this one, or slick pro blogs with lots of commercial appeal?

  1. I like CoS for newsy stuff: http://consequenceofsound.net/

    Owl & Bear for local:
    http://www.owlandbear.com/

What We Are Listening To because I like the tone, though it updates infrequently: http://whatwearelisteningto.blogspot.com/

    The Midnight Cafe for boots:
    http://www.themidnightcafe.org/

And HQ Hip Hop because sometimes they have cool library music on there or old groovy soul:
    http://www.hqhiphop.net/

I also LOVE Blaxploitation Jive, though they need to update EVERY DAY: http://blaxploitationjive.blogspot.com/

(I don't look at any of these on their pages, I RSS them all. The only downside to CoS and HQHH is the frequency of updates! Both too much and not enough updating can be bad.)

  2. Thanks, April! I just checked out CoS today for the first time, in fact. Liked it! So, in your opinion, what's the perfect update frequency for a blog?

  3. Probably between 2-3 times a week. At most daily. More seems excessive, though makes sense with things like CoS. I can't even keep up with Jezebel or Gawker, with everything THEY cover. When you have 100+ updates in a week, it gets overwhelming.
